MOYES IS ON THE WARPATH

I won’t put up with lazy Hammers, warns boss

- By KIERAN GILL

DAVID MOYES came out fighting last night as the new West Ham manager warned his players he will not tolerate a lack of trying or them stepping out of line.

The Scot’s appointment has split opinion among supporters following his failed spells with Manchester United, Real Sociedad and Sunderland.

The 54-year- old insisted West Ham have got themselves a ‘good manager’ and said: ‘I’m here, I’m on a job and I’m on a mission.

‘If you step out of line, you won’t play. If you don’t run, you won’t play. If you don’t do the training or you’re not fit

enough, you won’t play. There will be no favours. I’m in a hurry. They need to be as well. ‘If the players were maybe thinking the work had not been hard enough or they maybe had not done enough, OK, I hope they won’t cry if we work them harder. ‘I don’t want them to say, “This is too much”. Somewhere along the line, responsibility has to be taken by the players. I will say, “If you don’t like it, sorry”. We might need to upset a few to get where we need to go.’ Moyes, who replaces Slaven Bilic, spoke after Hammers co-chairman David Sullivan said the appointment was a ‘gamble’. The former Everton manager said: ‘I think it’s a good gamble. If I was a West Ham chairman I would certainly consider David Moyes as manager. It’s good for us both. It’s good for me because I’m back in. It’s what I love doing. I also think it’s good for West Ham. I think they’ve got a good manager.’ It is Moyes’s first job since he led Sunderland to relegation last season. He admitted: ‘I do have a point to prove. I do. Sometimes you have to repair things, and maybe I’ve got a little bit to repair.’ West Ham are third bottom in the Premier League, but asked if he thinks they are in a relegation battle, he said: ‘No, not at all. This is a strong squad.’
