It’s perked up my crowning glory

-

Jenny Lord, 41, a midwife, is married to Ben, 41, who works for deFrA. They live in Kent with their three children, William, eight, Phoebe, six, and daniel, two.

IT MAY seem strange that someone who is naturally dark blonde is happy to go ginger, but I’ve always liked it on other people. I normally have my hair highlighted when I have time, and in summer it goes almost white blonde at the front.

As a family we’re noticeable — my husband is blonde with blue eyes, and the children have all inherited our bright colouring. But now I’d really like to stand out — as I’ve got older, my hair has become less of a crowning glory and more just part of the furniture. I’d think a drastic change would give me extra confidence.

THE EXPERT SAYS: Blonde hair is easy to change. It just needs a cooler tone of red, usually to bring out the bright colour of blue eyes — it would suit a lighter ginger. If you have too much red in your complexion — from rosacea for instance — then your colourist will also need to balance for that.

I wanted to keep Jenny’s hair quite light, and work with her natural highlights at the front. Soft apricot sounds like an odd hair colour, but it looks incredible.

WHAT DOES JENNY THINK? When my hair was wet, it looked like I was going to end up like Ginger Spice, but thankfully it’s a flattering strawberry. I love that my natural blonde highlights still shine through the new colour — but it perks up my complexion.

My family liked it and my husband says it looks lovely — which is a big compliment from him. I do feel a little younger and certainly rejuvenated. Gingers do have more fun!
