FARAH ON UK CASH DESPITE 2020 DOUBTS
BRITISH ATHLETICS left themselves open to scrutiny yesterday after financially backing Mo Farah’s apparent U-turn to run the marathon at the Tokyo Olympics — despite receiving limited assurances that he will actually be there in 2020. It is believed to be unprecedented for a British athlete to get World Class Performance Programme funding without showing a total commitment to see out the Olympic cycle. Senior sources in the sport yesterday said they would be surprised if Farah, 34, ultimately did run in Tokyo. But Performance director Neil Black said: ‘The conversations I have had with Mo are very positive about running in Tokyo.’
