YOUR AMAZON PACKAGE DELIVERED – BY BUS!

-

LONDON’S red buses could soon deliver parcels from Amazon and other internet shops under a radical plan to slash traffic on the capital’s congested streets.

Go-Ahead Group, a transport operator behind many of London’s busiest services with 2,300 vehicles, is in talks with logistics firms about creating delivery sites at its depots. The scheme could even reportedly see empty buses used to shift packages across the city.

Congestion is a growing problem in the city centre – partly fuelled by the boom in online shopping, with many buyers getting parcels sent to their office during the day.

Go-Ahead bosses hope that they can cut van traffic by taking larger shipments at some depots. Empty buses could be used to shuttle packages from one depot to another, although insiders at the firm said this was not the top priority.

Transport for London figures show there were 2.3bn passenger journeys on its buses in the last financial year, down 2pc.
