IT’S A CHEAP SHOT TO CRITICISE CHELSEA OVER LOFTUS-CHEEK

SEEING Ruben LoftusCheek’s England debut last week, it was very easy to be critical of Chelsea for not giving him more first-team chances. Yet anyone who recalls the matches in which they did will surely agree they did not resemble his 90 minutes against Germany. On one occasion, he was selected by Jose Mourinho during his final season, a new face in what had become an inexplicably lethargic team. It was thought Loftus-Cheek (left) would provide a youthful injection of energy and ambition. He did neither. He was as ordinary as the rest of them. Chelsea’s system is far from perfect, but their coaches are not stupid. If Loftus-Cheek had played like he did on Friday, he may have got more games.
