THREE KEY BATTLES AT WEMBLEY

-

JOHN STONES v GABRIEL JESUS

The Manchester City team-mates know all about each other and they are the next big thing in their respective positions. At 23, central defender Stones has more experience than Jesus, 20, but the Brazilian has 11 goals in 20 games for club and country this season and has often relegated Sergio Aguero to the City bench. How they fare against each other could define the match.

RUBEN LOFTUS-CHEEK v CASEMIRO

Chelsea’s midfielder, on loan at Crystal Palace, was sensational against Germany on Friday behind England’s two strikers and will be aiming to continue that form as he stakes a claim for a World Cup place. Loftus-Cheek added flair and guile to the team but facing Real Madrid’s Casemiro, one of the best defensive midfielders in the world, will be a big test for the improving 21-year-old.

KYLE WALKER v NEYMAR

What better way to silence doubts over Walker’s defensive qualities than keeping Neymar quiet at Wembley tonight? So much of the City right back’s game is about bombing forward, but he will need to be disciplined against the world’s most expensive player. With Kieran Trippier pressuring him for a place in Gareth Southgate’s first XI, Walker can prove he deserves the nod.
