Bully boss axed City trader’s £50,000 bonus

- By Chris Greenwood

A CITY trader was unfairly dismissed after being showered with abuse by his boss, a tribunal has ruled.

Sebastian France, 46, who earned £500,000 a year, came to blows in the office with his manager Danny Fenn and rowed over a £50,000 bonus.

Mr France was often called a ‘c***’ by his boss at Spectron Services and Fenn was recorded telling him to ‘f*** off home’.

The Central London Employment Tribunal was told Fenn, head of the oil desk, began abusing Mr France in 2012.

The pair scuffled in March 2015 after Mr France failed to secure a trade. Fenn chased him outside and he was left with a bruised chin, it was claimed.

Fenn then axed Mr France’s £50,000 bonus, the tribunal was told. He was later offered £10,000 and another job at the company, but he quit in disgust last year.

On another occasion Fenn was recorded calling Mr France a ‘f****** wuss’ and said the firm did not need ‘fat lumps’.

After suspecting Mr France was filming the rant, Fenn shouted: ‘You’re the type of bloke who will f****** sit there and tape someone, I don’t give a f***.’

The tribunal said: ‘Mr Fenn had an aggressive management style and he frequently swore at and showered insults and abuse on those whom he felt were not performing to the level that he expected.’

Mr France is now in line for a five-figure payout after the brokerage firm conceded he lost his job unfairly because of ‘verbal insults and abuse’.
