A POIGNANT farewell from the New York soul singer, who died last year of cancer. Backed by The Dap-Kings, Jones envisaged an album of slow songs, but widened the palate as her health faded. These Tears and When I Saw Your Face are ballads rooted in Philly soul, but there’s also plenty of brassy funk and blues. ★★★★✩
