DEFENCE: No more cash for military
THE military will get no new money in the Budget despite warnings the Army is under strain and 20 years behind the times.
Government sources last night poured scorn on claims that Chancellor Philip Hammond could hand the armed forces another £2billion on Wednesday.
Gavin Williamson, the new Defence Secretary, has not asked for more cash despite fears that the MoD cannot pay for its military plans. He wants to ‘take stock’ of the situation first, the insiders said.
His predecessor, Sir Michael Fallon, had fought for more money for defence, warning of the need to cope with growing threats from terrorism and Russia and North Korea.
