Darceydouble baby tragedy: ‘I blamed it on myself’

-

Strictly come Dancing judge Darcey Bussell has revealed that she blames herself for losing two babies before she eventually gave birth to her daughters.

the ex-ballerina disclosed her personal tragedy while speaking at the Borne premature baby charity Secret Garden dinner in london.

‘ i lost two babies early into pregnancy and blamed it on myself,’ said mother-of-two Darcey.

‘i don’t like to dwell on it so work helps to deal with the loss.

‘i was not even conscious of what i had done wrong — you do believe it’s you,’ she explained.

‘the loss is always there but now i have two daughters i don’t want to bring it on them, so i keep busy.

‘losing babies is always traumatic. People say “never mind”. i would never wish it on anybody.’

Darcey, 48, who was appointed principal dancer at the royal Ballet at the age of only 20, is married to hedge fund manager Angus Forbes. She has two daughters, Phoebe, 16, and Zoe, 13.

Earlier this week she spoke about how she nearly died giving birth to her eldest daughter after suffering pre-eclampsia complications.

Pre- eclampsia affects women in pregnancy, with symptoms including high-blood pressure.

recalling the traumatic labour, she said she ‘could have gone into a coma at any second’, adding that she did not realise the severity of the situation until later on.

She had to undergo an emergency caesarean section and Phoebe was born two months premature.

Despite the difficult birth, Darcey added she felt ‘empowered’ and went on to have her second child.

After the birth of Zoe — who was also born prematurely — Darcey was told it would be too dangerous to get pregnant again.
