NOV 24: England are unbeaten in 13 Tests and have held the urn for more than 1,500 days but are blown away in Brisbane by Mitchell Johnson as Australia canter to a 381run victory in the first Test.

NOV 25: Jonathan Trott — having been called ‘weak’ by Aussie opener David Warner — withdraws from the tour citing a stress-related illness.

DEC 9: Australia win the second Test in Adelaide by 218 runs. Johnson is destructiv­e again, taking six for 16 in 26 balls.

DEC 21: Graeme Swann (above) retires from cricket as Australia regain the Ashes with another thumping win in Perth.

DEC 26: Matt Prior (right) is dropped for the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne and Jonny Bairstow comes in, but Australia win by eight wickets.

JAN 3: Joe Root is dropped for the final Test in Sydney. Scott Borthwick and Boyd Rankin make their debuts — neither has played another Test.

JAN 5: Australia win by 281 runs and complete a 5-0 whitewash having named the same XI for each of the five Tests. England went through 18 players — a record for an overseas tour.
