TURKEY must not be served in any canteen or restaurant between December 22 and December 30 inclusive, with the exception of Christmas Day, by order of the Ministry of Food. However, any turkey left over from December 25 may be served on the next day on which the establishment is open.

BRITAIN’S baby boom is over. A shortage of housing, perambulators, rationing and feeding difficulties didn’t stop the birth rate soaring in the post-war years. But latest returns show many thousands fewer babies born this year than last. up to last weekend, 362,587 babies were born in England and Wales — 57,066 fewer than last year.
