Unmasked: the thugs facing jail for wave of smash and grab raids

- By Chris Greenwood and Fionn Hargreaves

THIS is Britain’s biggest moped gang, ten thugs who left a £1million trail of destruction as they stole mobile phones to order.

They stripped 17 High Street stores across London of top-ofthe-range iPhone and Samsung models in a six-month spree.

Sixteen of the stores belonged to Three Mobile. Its Walthamstow shop was targeted an astonishing four times.

Wearing a ‘uniform’ of black helmets and clothes, the gang ram-raided targets before overpowering security guards with knives, hammers and a gun.

The villains, all aged between 19 and 24, then sold the phones to criminal brokers in London’s East End for export to countries including Bangladesh and Pakistan. They were finally caught after investigators found ringleader Courtney White’s DNA on a crash helmet thrown at them during a chase.

Police were also able to track the gang’s escape route and identify others after hiding tracking devices in dummy phones.

Details of the extraordinary crime wave were revealed after four of the North London gang
