Woman, 20, dies falling from window ‘as she took a selfie’

- By Megan Sheets

A WOMAN has died after falling out of a second floor window while reportedly taking a selfie.

Toni Kelly, 20, suffered serious head injuries and died two days later.

Her friends, who described her as ‘happy and beautiful’, suggested she was taking a photo of herself when she fell from her flat in Tooting, south London, although this has not yet been confirmed.

Miss Kelly moved to London from New Zealand in August as part of a teaching programme. She regularly posted selfies on her Instagram account of her holidays and her life in England.

Her mother Chrissy McKee, sister Stacey and her father, who flew to the UK following her death on November 14, said her organs have been donated.

Her aunt Sharon said the family had been left ‘devastated’ by her death. She wrote online: ‘ My niece sadly passed away in an awful accident. Will

be sadly missed by all. Toni was a happy, sweet, caring young lady full of life. Her parents are devastated beyond words.’

A Givealittle fundraising page has been created to help repatriate her body to her home town of Wanganui, on the north island of New Zealand.

Nearly £30,000 has been raised in less than a week, and her sister thanked donors on Facebook, adding: ‘We are completely lost for words.’

Dozens of Miss Kelly’s friends in New Zealand met on a beach at sunset to honour her life.

Lucy Griffiths, who set up the fundraising page, posted a photo of the event online with the caption: ‘Rest easy beautiful Toni.’

Another friend Paige Hourigan said Miss Kelly was ‘always smiling’ and was ‘the most fun’ to be around.

A spokesman for the Inner West London Coroner confirmed that she had fallen out of a window, but could not provide further details.

An inquest hearing is due to take place on January 24.
