Female staff at Bank earn a quarter less

-

WOMEN who work at the Bank of England are paid almost a quarter less than men.

On average, female employees earn 24.2pc less than male staff.

Men and women who do the same jobs are paid the same – but top roles are dominated by men.

A concentration of women in lower-paid positions means that they typically pocket less cash.

The Bank has been criticised for the lack of women in top jobs. Governor Mark Carney and his four deputies are all male, as are five of the seven external members of the Bank’s court of directors, and 13 of its 16 executive directors.

In the best-paid quarter of the Bank, 70pc of jobs are done by men. In the worst-paid quarter, 57pc are done by women.

The Bank is trying to tackle the problem and 40pc of graduates it hires are women. Treasury Select Committee chairman Nicky Morgan, said: ‘The measures to address its pay gap seem to be on the right track, but we cannot be complacent. Any gap is still too great.’
