WHAT HAS HE GOT?
A colleague suggested I take an early look at this emerging talent, so where better to watch David Brooks than in the Sheffield derby at Hillsborough? He played in a central role just short of the striker. He can clearly cause problems from this position because he can take a defender out of the game with a dribble. Many of his appearances have been in a wider position, where he can be starved of the ball. Centrally he was more involved and seemed to enjoy the role. His colleagues trust him and will provide him with regular service. A left footer, what I particularly liked was his eye for a short, incisive reverse pass to his striker, who could then make a shallow run on the blindside of the defender. He does not panic and shielded the ball well when confronted. Also, when fouled heavily he got up quickly without any rolling-around dramatics. He is unselfish and I saw him, after a mesmerising piece of skill, play in a colleague for what seemed a certain goal, only for the chance to be squandered.
