Tim Paine’s in pain as he drops one in Ashes opener
THIS is the moment Australia wicketkeeper Tim Paine prays will not come back to haunt him — when he dropped England’s new Ashes hero James Vince. The Hampshire batsman had reached 68 when he edged spinner Nathan Lyon, only to see former Banbury CC keeper Paine spill a regulation catch. Vince went on to make 83 as England reached 196 for four at the close on the first day of the Ashes opener at the Gabba.
THE Australians could clearly be heard chirping at England’s batsmen, particularly Moeen Ali, during the first day of the Ashes coverage. Australia’s wicketkeeper Tim Paine’s incessant calls of ‘Nice, Gazza’ and ‘Bowling, Garry’ to spinner Nathan Lyon were also clearly audible — Lyon is nicknamed Garry after former Aussie Rules player and now broadcaster Garry Lyon. The noisy Aussies led some television viewers to suspect that the stump microphones at The Gabba had been turned up — in fact, they were no louder than usual.
