READER’S QUESTION

I SPOTTED a familiar plant labelled Hesperantha in a garden centre. It looked similar to what I know as Schizostylis. Are they related? Mrs H. Miller, Cheshire. THEY’RE the same. Former plant group Schizostylis has been discontinued. Its only species, S. coccinea, with its pink flowers on fine stems, joins 80 others in genus Hesperantha. Scientific plant names are governed by international rules and change as new information emerges.
