Now let’s build on this point

- ADAM CRAFTON at the London Stadium

DAVID MOYES hailed West Ham’s performance as the start of the club’s revival — and urged them to deliver more displays like it. The new Hammers manager admitted: ‘It was important we didn’t lose, we needed something to build on. ‘It was a start for us. I thought the crowd were fantastic, (despite) all the negatives we have heard about the crowd I thought it was the opposite. ‘I thought the players were great in the second half. I think they are low on confidence, the results have not gone for the last month and it has been difficult. ‘You need some things to go for you and we lost a goal early on. But they stuck at it and the second half we had a real good go and I thought in the end we might have nicked it. ‘I don’t want to come on and start praising them for their work because this is a given for me. When we lose it, you have to get behind the ball and we did that. ‘What have we learned about the players? We have learned they can run and we need to keep them doing that, but we have only drawn so we need to be better with the ball. The players have been really good at the training ground and they have done really well. We just have to hope we can take that into the next few games.’ Hammers goalkeeper Joe Hart also paid tribute to the home support. They even sang the new manager’s name in the second half — a marked turnaround from defeat in his opening game at Watford when the club’s owners were abused. Hart told Sky Sports: ‘I have to say a huge thank you to the fans. It could have gone two ways but they stuck with us and I’d like to think we put in a performance. I have stood in goal and didn’t have a lot to do, but the fans could easily have carried on hammering us and I thought they were fantastic tonight. ‘As good as our players are, when we have the support we play better. It made a world of difference to the players. There was steam coming out of the big man (Andy Carroll), working to try to score goals, that’s what they want to see. ‘Leicester’s goal was an awful one to concede and that put us on the back foot, but I think we were organised and we didn’t give them any chances.’ Carroll said: ‘I think the lads have done well. It is very important we carry on from today. We showed we still have the team spirit and we still want it.’
