D-Day veteran: Man charged

-

A MAN has been charged with the attempted murder of a D-Day veteran who was seriously injured in a claw hammer attack.

Jim Booth, 96, was assaulted in his home in an alleged burglary on Wednesday, leaving him with ‘potentially life-threatening’ injuries.

Joseph Isaacs, of no fixed address, was yesterday charged with aggravated burglary and attempted murder. The 39year-old will appear at Taunton magistrates’ court on Monday.

It is believed a claw hammer was used to attack Mr Booth, from Taunton in Somerset. He suffered serious injuries to his head and body and was taken to hospital, but his family say he is now ‘growing stronger’.

Mr Booth was awarded the French Croix de Guerre for his gallantry in the Navy during the Second World War.
