RODGERS FULL STEIN AHEAD

- By DAVID KENT

Brendan rodgers became the first Celtic manager to land four trophies in a row since the great Jock stein as Celtic won the Betfred Cup final against 10-man Motherwell at Hampden Park yesterday. rodgers joined Celtic in the summer of 2016 and has won every available trophy since. Celtic winger James Forrest curled in the opener in the 49th minute and striker Moussa dembele fired in a contentious penalty on the hour mark. Motherwell defender Cedric Kipre was harshly sent off for conceding the spot-kick. His foul on scott sinclair was soft, with the winger appearing to go down all-too easily. rodgers said: ‘scott is so fast and it looks like he was going in on the blind side of the defender. I’m not sure about the contact until I see it again.’ But Motherwell manager stephen robinson said: ‘I’ve seen the penalty challenge back, there’s no contact. Cedric hasn’t touched him, the kid’s devastated.’ The champions, thrashed 7-1 in the Champions League at Paris saint-germain last Wednesday, extended their unbeaten domestic run to 65 games. and with the Ladbrokes Premiership title all-but certain to be retained, the Parkhead side will be strong favourites to win all three major competitions again. ‘after the game in midweek, to come back — once we got the first goal, you could see the confidence leapt to another level,’ added rodgers. ‘It’s another brilliant victory. We had to tick a lot of character boxes today against a Motherwell team who’ve been excellent this season.’
