Schoolboy jihadi guilty of plotting van attack at Bieber concert
A BABY-faced white teenager is facing prison after being convicted of plotting to carry out an Islamic State-inspired attack.
The 17-year-old British schoolboy, who cannot be named, planned to steal a car and carry out a London Bridge-style atrocity as more than 40,000 fans descended on Cardiff’s Principality Stadium for a Justin Bieber concert.
The young jihadi, who had not converted to Islam, was arrested in a raid on his South Wales home on June 30, hours before the pop star (right) came on stage. He had put a hammer and kitchen knife in his school rucksack in preparation and written a suicide letter.
Despite admitting being radicalised on Instagram by a man named ‘al-Baghdadi’, the teenager denied terror charges. But a jury at Birmingham Crown Court convicted him of preparing for terrorist acts after a two-week trial. He will be sentenced on January 10.
Sue Hemming, of the Crown Prosecution Service, said: ‘His behaviour over many months leaves no doubt that he intended to kill and maim as many people as possible in an attack reminiscent of the incident on Westminster Bridge.’
