AlTHOuGH there are only 23 shopping days before Christmas, shopkeepers say the real rush hasn’t started. They blame the blackout. Men are buying fur coats for their wives, but of the less expensive types — and one of the most popular toy dolls is one resembling the Prime Minister, Mr Neville Chamberlain, in a fishing outfit.

JAyNE MANSfIEld’S six-year- old son, Zoltan, had a six-hour brain operation tonight after being mauled by a lion he tried to pat as his mother posed for photographers at a zoo. The actress was at the boy’s bedside in a los Angeles hospital when he came round and asked for a snake and a kangaroo rat.

The Scottish peer was Chancellor of the Exchequer under Gordon Brown and stood down as a labour MP in 2015. known for his white hair and black eyebrows, one journalist remarked: ‘Chancellor Alistair darling’s eyebrows are so distinctly different from his hair that web forums question if they are fake, dyed or just lost caterpillars.’
