A JOURNEY back through the history of BBC children’s TV, including Jackanory, Vision On, Watch With Mother, Grange Hill and more. The section on John Craven’s Newsround makes a good point about how children’s TV should inform and not just entertain.
ALLIED SPIES X-Company, py 9pm, History
THE agents, including Aurora (Evelyne Brochu, pictured) have discovered evidence of the mass extermination of the Jews in the gripping sseason one finale. Their horror at the discovery — and the indifference of those it does not affect directly — is deftly handled. Season two will be along in 2018.
DARK COMEDY Sick Note, 10pm, Sky One
DANIEL is embarking on his (fake) cancer treatment as Sky’s dark comedy enters its second half. He’s in the hands of Dr Glennis, a man who can’t spell ‘Daniel’ or pronounce ‘placebo’. Events take a weird, bloody and increasingly sweary turn as the episode continues, partly because of Daniel’s lunatic boss (Don Johnson, pictured).
FAMILY LIVES Behind Closed Doors, 10pm, TLC
THIS new series places remotecontrolled cameras inside the houses of three different U.S. families — ‘each at a crossroads in their relationship’ — 24 hours a day. The results can be raw and at times uncomfortable to watch. (Sky 125, Virgin 167)
HOW TICKLED HE IS . . . Arena: Ken Dodd, 10pm, BBC4
SUPERB documentary, originally shown as part of the Christmas 2007 schedule. It features some fantastic footage of the indefatigable comic at work, both during his early days and more recently — he’s still touring now, at 90. Watch out for a remarkable clip of Dodd with The Beatles.

THE return of this eerie but naturally played Australian paranormal drama. When it begins, a policeman in a small town is called to the cemetery when people start rising from the dead.
