McQueen racing suit to fetch £370k
THE racing suit worn by Steve McQueen in film Le Mans is expected to sell for £370,000.
In the 1971 film Mc Queen–playing driver Michael Delaney – wore the suit, pictured, as he famously gave a two-fingered salute to a Ferrari driver.
It was given away in a German magazine contest and now it is set to become one of the most expensive items of clothing to sell at auction, with a guide price of $500,000 (£370,000) when it goes under the hammer in New York. Michael Squire, of auctioneers RM Sotheby’s, said: ‘Whenever Steve McQueen is mentioned, the first image that comes to mind is that of him dressed in the Le Mans race suit with the famous Gulf stripes, giving a two-fingered salute.’
