Grenade in court kills 2 and injures 9

- Mail Foreign Service

A MAN blew himself up and killed a murder suspect after detonating two hand grenades in a court.

Nine other people were also hurt in the blast in Ukraine.

It occurred during the trial of several men accused of killing two people in 2016.

The man who caused the explosion was the father of one of the murder victims. He died instantly. The defendant died later in hospital. The blast was so powerful that it almost took a door off its hinges.

Among the injured were court staff and security guards.

The tragedy highlights the arms trafficking problem in Ukraine since the conflict between Russianbacked rebels and the Kiev army erupted in April 2014.

Earlier this month, Kiev police detained two men after 6.5kg of explosives were found in a car that was parked near a shopping centre in the Ukrainian capital.

The conflict in the east of the country has so far resulted in more than 10,000 deaths.
