LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR: COLLECTION 11

-

(AA Books £25) THIS utterly reliable annual publication demonstrates, to me at least, that most photographers are slightly mad. Who else would stand on a narrow spit of a beach for three hours to capture the single shot that they are waiting for, even though they don’t really know what it will be? And they could miss it because they were eating a sandwich, and have to come back the following day. These landscapes, such as the River Thames at Lechlade (above) are so remarkable, many of them look as if they have been confected on computer, but that’s so against the rules we know it can’t be so.
