EUROPE: AROUND THE WORLD IN 125 YEARS

(National Geographic/ Taschen £49.99) THERE are roughly 200 images in this ambitious photographic record of Europe in its various guises, from the capacious archives of National Geographic magazine. While there is the odd cliche (Dutch people in silly hats, English toffs punting), the sheer variety pulls you in and won’t let you go, like St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City (above). But in others it’s the people you are drawn to, living their lives, many of which ended a long time ago. Will we look as bizarre to others in 80 years’ time? I would put money on it.
