LOOK AFTER BIRDS

-

BIRDS face hardship every winter. Short days reduce the amount of time they have for finding food. Cold, wet weather also takes its toll, especially on such small species as blue tits, coal tits and goldcrests.

If you put out bird feeders, make sure that they are wellstocked. As well as seed, include high-energy foods such as fat balls, peanuts or sunflower kernels. Water is essential for birds, too, and can be scarce in freezing weather. If you have a pond, ensure they can reach the water. And if you have a bird bath, keep it tidy and top it up when necessary.
