OFCOM CLAMPDOWN
BT faces a crackdown to prevent it cutting broadband prices only in areas where it faces competition while leaving them unchanged elsewhere.
Rivals including Virgin Media fear BT could use its financial clout to cut prices for customers in areas where competitors are trying to break into the market by laying their own fast cable networks. Ofcom said the changes were ‘designed to encourage investment in new ultrafast networks, promote competition and protect consumers’.
The proposals are being consulted on until January 12.
