New ball game for Rooney Jr
HIS father has made a fortune from kicking a ball around a field.
But if this picture is anything to go by, Kai Rooney isn’t entirely following in Wayne’s footsteps.
The eight-year-old appeared just as happy running with a ball in his hands during a recent tag rugby tournament.
Wearing a green gum shield to protect his teeth, Kai, who is the eldest son of the exEngland captain, looked absorbed in the game as he dodged a tackle. He was photographed playing with friends from his private school in Manchester.
It is perhaps no surprise, given his parentage, that Kai is turning out to be a sporty child. Last year it was reported that he is already showing an aptitude for football and had been signed to the youth development squad at Manchester United – Rooney’s previous club.
And the Everton player, 32, who also showed a talent for the game at a young age, has previously posted pictures online of his son picking up certificates for golf.
Kai’s mother Coleen, 31, liked the photos posted by his school on Twitter yesterday.
Last month Mrs Rooney posted a long message on Facebook criticising her husband for his ‘stupid, selfish mistakes,’ after he was caught drink-driving while in the car of another woman in September.
But she explained she had decided to stay and work on their marriage because she loved him and he was a ‘brilliant dad.’
