Disabled ignored

-

Instead of calling for genderneutral toilets, we should be addressing the issue of the lack of disabledaccess lavatories for people of either gender.

toilets for the disabled are present in most public buildings, but having no more than one such public convenience in busy areas of towns and cities is simply ridiculous.

More than 11 million people in the UK are disabled in some way, and many struggle to find suitable disabled loos.

How is a blind person expected to take a guide dog into the paltry sanitary facilities that still exist in shopping centres nationwide? and what is a wheelchairbound rail passenger to do if the only disabled toilet on the train is out of order?

this happens every day — and some disabled toilets are not even maintained, even though businesses have a legal duty to make sure their loos are accessible.

I’m sure most ablebodied transgender individuals are thickskinned enough to choose the ‘male’ or ‘female’ door. those with more serious needs should be considered. EmiliE lamplough, Trowbridge, Wiltshire.
