DOPING SCANDAL: THE KEY POINTS
AFTER an investigation into allegations of statesponsored doping at the 2014 Winter Olympics hosted by Russia in Sochi, here are the key points:
÷ Russia are banned from the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, but ‘clean’ athletes can compete as neutrals. ÷ Vladimir Putin could refuse to let clean athletes compete and boycott the games. ÷ Vitaly Mutko, deputy prime minister, is banned for life from the Olympics. He was sports minister and is now president of the Russian FA in charge of the 2018 World Cup. Over to you, FIFA. ÷ Russian Olympic Committee was ordered to repay £11m to reimburse costs incurred by the IOC on the investigations and independent testing body. ÷ IOC president Thomas Bach said: ‘This was an unprecedented attack on the integrity of the Olympic Games and sport.’
