Stuck in traffic, Parky misses his own interview

MORE used to keeping tight control of his TV interviews, Sir Michael Parkinson ended up in trouble yesterday when he became the guest.

The chat show legend, 82, was caught in traffic and missed a visit to the ITV show Lorraine to promote an album.

Host Lorraine Kelly said: ‘Sir Michael was supposed to be here on the sofa next to me but he’s stuck in traffic so there’s an empty chair. This has never really happened before.’

Ever the smooth operator, Sir Michael picked up the thread by phone, saying: ‘You’re interviewing an empty chair – that’s a new one.’

He described yesterday’s traffic as ‘terrifying – I’ve never seen it worse’.
