Nuclear plant rescued

A FALTERING nuclear power station due to be hooked up to 6m homes looks set to be rescued by a South Korean firm.

State utility Kepco is the preferred bidder to step in after a crisis at toshiba nearly sank the project in Moorside, Cumbria.

the nugen plant has been on hold after toshiba subsidiary Westinghouse went bankrupt and partner engie fled the project. Kepco has been negotiating to buy some or all of toshiba’s stake.

Westinghouse was making the reactors, so there may be further delays as Korean models gain approval. the plant was due in 2025 but it now looks more like 2030.
