‘Too clever for jail’ student to appeal against knife sentence
AN Oxford University medical student labelled ‘too clever for prison’ is appealing against the suspended sentence she received for slashing her boyfriend with a bread knife.
Lavinia Woodward, 24, avoided an immediate jail term for attacking the man she had met on Tinder during an alcohol and cocaine-fuelled argument at Christ Church College.
She stabbed him in the leg with a breadknife on December 30 last year. Now a judge will consider her application and, if permission is granted, it will be heard before three Court of Appeal judges.
Woodward, admitted unlawful wounding and was to be sentenced earlier this year.
But a judge controversially gave her four months to prove herself and stay out of trouble.
Critics said he had been too lenient because of her academic prowess.
