A MASTERCLASS IN MURDER

-

IT’S 1962. Headmaster James Starkey has been found dead at the foot of the staircase. Did he fall or was he pushed? Inspector Morris and PC Briggs question GLORIA GREY, OLIVER LUCAS, RONALD BUNDY, VIOLET YOUNG AND LIONEL MCGRATH — all teachers at the school. Each has a motive for wanting Starkey dead. as they continue their investigation, Morris keeps finding clues that appear to have been planted and believes that someone is taunting them. as Inspector Morris walked round the school again, he noticed that the number 9 had been chalked on every blackboard in the school. ‘Sometimes, a killer is so arrogant, he thinks he can torment those investigating him and still get away with it,’ he tells Briggs. ‘So, let us consider the hints left at the crime scene. There was a statue there of alan Turing who was a famous code-breaker. Starkey was a maths teacher who served in the Navy, like me. If I’m not mistaken, the nautical flags in the hall were signalling: “I’m going in reverse.” If we bear that in mind as we look at all the numbers, I think we can finally crack the code and identify Whodunnit.’
