UN challenge to Trump over Jerusalem
DONALD Trump’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital will be formally challenged in the United Nations.
Arab states called on the UN Security Council to adopt a resolution condemning the US President’s declaration.
If the move is vetoed by the US, members of the Arab League said they would seek a similar measure in the UN General Assembly. Palestinians have mounted three days of violent protests following Mr Trump’s decision, which was widely seen as siding with Israel.
Arab League chief Ahmed Aboul-Gheit said: ‘This is an extended battle... that will be escalated.’ Britain joined other nations in the UN last week to call the move ‘unhelpful’.
