‘MAN OF STEEL’ WHO SURVIVED HOLOCAUST

-

SHOPPING centre king Sir Frank Lowy is giving up his throne less than a week after being knighted for his services to the economy and charity.

The 87-year-old Slovakian-born Jew who survived the Holocaust before settling in Australia, co-founded the Westfield empire with his late business partner and fellow immigrant John Saunders in 1960.

Lowy’s biographer Jill Margo said: ‘The extremes of the Holocaust did not melt Frank. They forged him into steel.’
