... and, oh, how Mr Corbyn made his presence felt
WHILE most of the dignitaries maintained a dignified presence at the ceremony, from Jeremy Corbyn it was one hug after another.
As many of the relatives emerged, many received the arm round the shoulders, closed eyes and ‘empathy’.
One was Nyalissa Mendy – a relative of 52-year-old victim Mary Mendy – who leant into him with tears streaming down her cheeks. The outpouring of passion was described as ‘very moving’ by the Labour leader. ‘They are still reliving the trauma of that night,’ he said. ‘People are very angry and I’m here to listen to them... and I’m here to try and change things.’
But Communities Secretary Sajid Javid criticised him, telling Channel 4: ‘I’m afraid that Jeremy Corbyn has treated this like a bit of political football and that is a shame.’
