IT’S PISTOLS AT DAWN
HAMILTON is all about duels — and rap, hip-hop and dance.
In the early 19th century, many disputes were still settled with pistols. In 1801, Hamilton’s son Philip was killed in a duel in New Jersey by a lawyer called George Eacker, for trying to defend his, father’s na name. Three ye years later, using the same pistol and an in exactly the same
spot, H Hamilton squared up to
Vice President Aaron Burr (seen right in a 19th-century engraving). While Hamilton did the classy thing and aimed at the sky, Burr was less gentlemanly.
His first shot hit a tree, but the second blasted through Hamilton, who died from his injuries the next day. In the show there are three duels: they are the big scenes and took months of rehearsing to perfect.
