CARRY ON, PEP!

City’s mega offer to boss in bid to rule for a decade

- By CHRIS WHEELER

MANCHESTER CITY will hand Pep Guardiola a new contract in the summer, confident he is building a dynasty that could deliver a decade of success at the Etihad Stadium.

City extended their record run to 16 straight Premier League wins by sweeping aside Tottenham 4-1 on Saturday, and have now beaten all their title rivals with some ease. The club’s Abu Dhabi owners will reward Guardiola with an improved deal at the end of the season, even though the Spaniard will still have 12 months left on his £12million-a-year contract.

City believe they have found a unique coach, much like rivals Manchester United did with Sir Alex Ferguson, and want to keep him for as long as possible. Guardiola only spent four years at Barcelona and three at Bayern Munich, but City are confident their manager has the right environment to convince him to stay longer. Guardiola’s side are running away with the title race and coasted into the last 16 of the Champions League. And City believe this squad can be the bedrock of a trophyladen next 10 years.

In his first season in English football, Guardiola failed to win any silverware for the first time in his managerial career. City’s owners believe that has made the 46-year-old even more focused and determined to succeed in the Premier League.
