I’ve had Botox but now my eyes give away my age
Q
I AM 52 and hate my under-eye bags, which make me look permanently tired. I have Botox for my forehead every nine months and have also had lip fillers — but it has made my eye bags stand out, and I think it really gives away my age. What can I do?
A
SOMETIMES patients return to me for a second procedure elsewhere on the face, as treating one area can draw attention to another.
In the past the only way to treat bad eye bags successfully was surgical blepharoplasty (lower eyelid surgery). It was performed via an incision either in the skin below the lash line or hidden inside the lower eyelid and the excess fat removed. It left significant swelling.
However, we can now avoid incisions and replace lost volume in the ‘tear trough’ hollow below the eye. It’s done with dermal fillers and, depending on the severity of the problem, I would also recommend skintightening treatments such as radiofrequency.
I would start by injecting a small amount of dermal filler such as Juvederm to blend the eye bag with the upper cheek, restoring the lost volume just underneath the eye. It takes 15 to 20 minutes, is relatively painless and the results are immediate. Prices from £550.
