I honed my striking skills by taking shots against my Nan!

- SIMON JONES

FIRST FOOTBALL TBALL MEMORY

Kicking the ball up and down with my nan in her back garden in Gloucester. She used to go in goal and I would shoot at the gate and try to score.

BEST PLAYER I’VE PLAYED WITH

I’ve trained with Gareth Bale so it would have to be him but on the same pitch, playing a real match, I would say Darren Fletcher, now of Stoke who used to be at West Brom. He’s had an amazing career and achieved so much.

TOUGHEST OPPONENT

Presnel Kimpembe, the France Under 21 defender who plays for Paris Saint-Germain. When we played them in a pre-season friendly out in Austria, he was strong, quick and clever.

FAVOURITE FOOTBALLING MOMENT

Lifting the Victory Shield for Wales Under 16s in 2015. I scored against Northern Ireland in the final but to be captain and be the first Wales team to win it outright since 1949 was a massive achievement — and it was on Sky, too!

SPORTING HERO

My favourite player of all time is 100 per cent the Brazilian Ronaldo. He made the game look so easy and is always exciting to watch when I go over clips on YouTube.

TOUGHEST AWAY GROUND

I would say Kingsmeadow. AFC Wimbledon make the game scrappy and do the ugly side of the game really well, plus the fans are tight to the pitch which helps give them momentum.

THE FIRST ALBUM I BOUGHT

Probably an old CD called Now 65. I remember blasting it out on the speakers in my mum’s car when she took to me training.

KARAOKE SONG

I usually sing I Believe I Can Fly and add a few dance moves in there as well.

BEST-DRESSED TEAM-MATE

Apart from myself I’d have to say Mansfield Town’s Alex MacDonald. When I was on loan at Oxford United and he was there, he would always come in looking the part.

DREAM DINNER PARTY GUESTS

The American comedian Kevin Hart, the actor Will Smith and the actress Megan Fox.

IF I WASN’T A FOOTBALLER

I would have had plenty of time to come up with a genius invention and made myself a nice little business.
