Don’t you want my Ugg boots?

Human League singer is barred from airport lounge over her fluffy footwear

THE singer of the Eighties band The human League was not impressed when an airline denied her entry to its business lounge – because her expensive boots looked like ‘sleepwear’.

Joanne Catherall and her £150 Ugg boots were blocked from the Qantas lounge in Melbourne, australia, last week.

Miss Catherall, who was on her way to a gig in Sydney, said staff from the australian airline ‘helpfully’ suggested she buy new shoes from an airport shop.

Qantas claims that Uggs are inappropriate and not in keeping with the smart casual environment it wants to create.

Miss Catherall, whose hits include Don’t you Want Me? and Mirror Man, wrote on Twitter: ‘Denied access @ Qantas business class lounge in Melbourne airport apparently Ugg ( australia) boots are deemed sleepwear by the lady working there although no problem in any of the other lounges so far.’

The 55yearold added: ‘helpfully she suggested i go to one of the shops & purchase some shoes.’ Qantas responded, saying it wanted to apply its dress code to all guests.

Miss Catherall then replied: ‘Why would an @Ugg boot i wear outdoors in all weathers be classed as sleepwear in @Qantas lounge but nowhere else that i have ever been on this earth.’

on its website, Qantas says its dress code also bars passengers in flip flops, headtotoe gym clothes, beachwear and sleepwear, including Ugg boots and slippers.
