United in uproar at Sevilla’s £133 seats

- By MIKE KEEGAN

FURIOUS Manchester United fans have hit out after it emerged Sevilla are charging a staggering £133 for tickets to February’s Champions League clash in Spain.

The move has sparked outrage, with many taking to social media to brand the Spanish club a ‘disgrace’.

United have been allocated 2,650 seats for the last-16 match at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium which have been split into two price groups.

The majority cost £89 and the remainder, a block consisting of 200 seats, are £133. By contrast, United are charging season-ticket holders from £39 for the home leg.

Some United fans claimed the tickets will cost more than their flights to Seville. Others called on the club to intervene and lend their supporters a helping hand. United’s travel partners, Thomas Cook Sport, are charging £279 for a day trip to see the match and £399 for an overnight stay.

Duncan Drasdo, chief executive of the Manchester United Supporters Trust, called the prices ‘exorbitant’. He added: ‘It is too early to know whether we can change this but we will be lobbying UEFA and other bodies who may be able to influence this exploitative pricing.’

Liverpool supporters were charged £54 at the same venue last month and Leicester City fans paid £51 when they visited the city for a Champions League tie in February.

United are aware of the situation and are looking into it. They came under fire themselves earlier this month when it emerged they were charging Derby County supporters £45 for next month’s FA Cup third-round tie, while many Premier League clubs are charging £10.

A Sevilla spokesman claimed the club had offered a special ‘ cheaper’ price to Liverpool supporters.

They added that Sevilla fans without a season ticket would have to pay ¤100, which equates to a similar price.
