Pep insists Quadruple is out of reach

-

From Back Page City knocked out Leicester 4-3 on spot-kicks, with Jamie Vardy also missing from 12 yards. Bravo’s brilliance had seen off Wolves in the previous round in a similarly dramatic conclusion. City manager Pep Guardiola said: ‘This was second time Claudio has helped us. But Silva, Yaya Toure and Gundogan all played really good games. I’m so happy the young players like Brahim and Foden were really good and the old players helped the young ones. ‘We had a lot of young players and the way we played in extra time we tried to win the game. But of course it is not easy against Mahrez and Vardy.’ Vardy’s miss in the shootout came after he scored an added-time penalty to take it beyond 90 minutes, after Bernardo Silva’s first-half goal looked to have given the visitors the win. City can still make a clean sweep of trophies with Guardiola’s side 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League. But asked whether his side could go all the way in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup, Guardiola was adamant and said: ‘Forget about the Quadruple — that is not going to happen.’ Leicester manager Claude Puel said: ‘We were unlucky. We had most of the chances. It’s a disappointment of course but no regrets, we gave our best, just at the beginning maybe not enough but after that we played well.’ After losing 3-0 at home to Crystal Palace in the league last Saturday, Puel was happy with his team’s attitude, saying: ‘We worked hard for each other and I like this. We had to give a good response after the last game.’ A MAN has been charged with racially aggravated common assault in connection with an incident involving City’s Raheem Sterling on Saturday. Karl Anderson, 29, will appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court today.
