Wimbledon’s rap for snubbing MK

- By DAVID KENT

AFC Wimbledon have been charged by the Football league after failing to use mK dons’ full name during their league one game in September.

Wimbledon called the visitors either mK or milton Keynes and did not use pictures of the team or badge in the programme.

it was a repeat of the clubs’ first meeting at the Cherry Red Records Stadium in march, and came despite the eFl seeking assurances that mK dons would be treated the same as any other visiting side.

Wimbledon were charged under eFl regulation 3, which states that no club ‘shall by any means whatsoever unfairly criticise, disparage, belittle or discredit any other club’.

‘Their case will now be heard by an independent panel and the eFl will make no further comment until the matter has been determined,’ said an eFl spokesperson.

AFC Wimbledon said on their website: ‘The club is still deciding on its response to the charges.’

AFC Wimbledon were formed in 2002 by disgruntled Wimbledon fans after the FA allowed Wimbledon to move to milton Keynes in 2003. The old Wimbledon changed their name to mK dons in 2004.

The game was the sixth between the two sides, and brought mK dons their fourth victory.
