Never mind Russia’s thugs, beware bears!
ENGLAND fans intending to travel to the World Cup have been warned to beware the bears.
Football Supporters’ Federation chief Kevin Miles was researching travel options when he received the surprising advice by the Russian national tourism office.
Miles, concerned about the lack of hotel accommodation, asked Visit Russia about camping options. He was told there is no camping culture in the country, apart from out in the wild where you had to be very careful about the danger posed by hungry bears.
There have been reports of an increasing number of Russia’s 70,000 bears approaching humans because of a lack of food sources.
Meanwhile, the FA have received the results of a survey into the way their brand is perceived and their relevance and competence in comparison to other sports bodies. And it doesn’t make comfortable reading, judging by chairman Greg Clarke’s reaction.
Clarke wrote to councillors: ‘One of the key messages is that the multi-faceted role of the FA is often a source of confusion. And we need to more clearly articulate our responsibilities. So there is greater awareness where these start and stop.
‘It is also fair to say we have some way to go to reach acceptable levels of external credibility.’ EVEN more exciting for Manchester City fans than England Under 17 World Cup winner Phil Foden breaking into the first team would be if promising 16-year-old Tommy Doyle makes the grade. He has the impeccable credentials of both his grandfathers, Mike Doyle and Glyn Pardoe, who were City favourites. Doyle’s agent is former Sunderland chief executive Margaret Byrne, who also has other City youngsters on her books.
