BRITISH passports after Brexit will be ‘precisely’ the same blue as the originals, the Home Office promised yesterday.
It made the pledge after images of the proposed new travel documents appeared to show them a lighter, more European, shade of blue than those issued prior to 1988. But the announcement of the switch prompted a lively debate about what colour the original passports had been.
The journalist Michael Crick tweeted a picture of his old passport and insisted: ‘It looks black to me, and that’s how any witness would describe it in court.’
But others responded that it was ‘very dark navy’.
Martin Warne tweeted: ‘I worked in the Passport Office for 18 months. Staff refer to those as Old Blues.’
